Former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh passed away at the age of 92 at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) on Thursday night. Dr. Singh, India's 13th Prime Minister and the first Sikh to hold the esteemed position, led the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government from May 2004 to May 2014.

The hospital issued a statement confirming his death, saying, "With profound grief, we inform the demise of Former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh, aged 92. He had been receiving treatment for age-related medical conditions and suddenly lost consciousness at home on December 26, 2024. Immediate resuscitative efforts were made, and he was rushed to AIIMS at 8:06 PM. Despite all attempts, he could not be revived and was declared dead at 9:51 PM."

After the Congress party's defeat in the 2014 general elections, Dr. Singh retired from public life. His final public appearance was in the Rajya Sabha in August 2023, where he had been a member.
